Jancis Robinson’s Lockdown Wines: The Best White Wines to Order from Home

Jancis Robinson’s latest Financial Times column featured some of her top white wine recommendations to order from home, including Dog Point Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2019.

Robinson writes, “If it’s searing acidity you crave, then I wholeheartedly recommend a top example of one of the most popular wines in the world, Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Dog Point, a producer established by a couple of key members of the early Cloudy Bay team, makes such good and distinctive Marlborough Sauvignon that even I — not always the greatest fan of these wines — love it.” Concerned that the 2019 vintage isn’t available in your local shop yet? The 2018 is still an outstanding option, as she explains that Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc “is delicious as soon as it is released but unlike most of its peers continues to develop for two or three years in bottle.”

Almost since its inception, Dog Point  has been recognized as among the very top (arguably the very top) wine producers in New Zealand.  Their two very different Sauvignon Blancs, their Pinot Noir, and their Chardonnay are all wines of astounding quality and complexity not just in the context of New Zealand wines, but globally.
